Kokom Rose, "the boss" ! |

Last week end, we went for a visit in La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve, near Poigan.
We were invited by the elder Jacob Wawatie to help with
preparing a big camp site at the initiative of Anishinabe Grandmothers.
Next week, great things will take place there: From Saturday July 20th to Friday July 26th, there
will be a full week of workshops and teachings on Anishinabe
spirituality and traditional Anishinabe way of life in the forest. The objective is to pass this on firstly to the Anishinabe
youth, but also to anyone willing to learn. It will
be an important moment for grandmothers and defenders of the land, to
raise awareness about what's happening on the land and what's at stake.
So this is an open invitation to all, to go put up tents there, meet people from the community (we were told that at least 30 families are expected) and receive valuable teachings. It will take place in the forest, at 18 km of gravel road of the 117. Bring your own food. Workshops will be given primarly in Anishinabe, with translation to french and english. Donations - $ or food etc - are welcome.

Here are basic directions to go there:
Enter La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve through the 117 road. Pass the sign announcing Lac Roland and a trail (Télébec's apparently?). Just after that, pay attention: there's a sign on the left (assuming you're going North) written "Kokom Camp 18 km". Take this rough road. Pass Lac Antostagan, announced by a sign. The camp is just a bit further.
